Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects\, premature birth and infant mortality. We have launched a national campaign to reduce the rate of premature birth. Nearly half a million babies are born prematurely each year in the U.S. Premature birth kills and disables babies. The March of Dimes campaign is addressing this problem through expanded scientific research\, consumer education about healthy pregnancy and signs of preterm labor\, assistance for health professionals in identifying women at risk for premature birth\, advocacy for increased access to health coverage for pregnant women and children and information and emotional support for families of babies in  neonatal intensive care units.
